At approximately 09:00 yesterday morning a premises in Derby Close, Milnerton Ridge, was searched after a tip-off was received from neighbours of a stench smell coming from the house. Nobody was at home at the time and the landlord was contacted to unlock the premises.
Upon unlocking the premises SAPS members entered the residence and an illegal abalone processing facility containing various items of equipment and abalone were uncovered.
The abalone was counted by officials from the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and amounted to 4840 wet shucked units and 34 dry units. The value is yet to be determined and no arrests have been made as yet.
