K9 ‘Bessie’ sniffs out drugs, Vredendal

An integrated, intelligence driven operation led by the Provincial Narcotics Unit resulted in the confiscation of a consignment of drugs in Oliver Tambo Street, Vredendal North.

The members executed a search warrant on Tuesday, 14 March 2023 with the assistance of K9 Bessie, a police narcotics detection dog.

K9 Bessie was sent into the premises by his handler where the K9 detected drugs and indicated the location thereof to the team.

As the police team was searching, a total of 29,507 kilograms of dagga was found abandoned.

Members continued executing further searches and were led to an address of a 20-year-old suspect where they found 1938 grams of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of R678 300-00.

The suspect was arrested and charged for dealing in drugs as well as the contravention of the Immigration Act.

The suspects will appear in the Vredendal Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 16 March 2023.
