On the morning of 9 February 2021, at approximately 04:00 members of the Mbekweni Crime Prevention Unit received information about the whereabouts of suspects linked to kidnapping cases which occurred in Paarl. They proceeded to a house in Project 2 area and during the search, 16 tik bags weighing 1 504.43 kg and five bags of crack cocaine with an estimated street value of about R1,5 million were found and confiscated.

A 33-year-old foreign national was arrested and was detained at Paarl SAPS and will appear at Paarl Magistrate court for kidnapping and possession of drugs once he has charged.

In an unrelated incident, a 67-year-old woman from Mbekweni appeared in Paarl Magistrate court on Monday 8 February 2021, after she was arrested on Friday 5 February 2021. Mbekweni Crime Prevention Unit executed a search warrant at a known drug outlet and confiscated 581 mandrax tablets with a street value of approximately R33 000. The suspect was arrested for possession of mandrax.

Another foreign national was arrested for possession of mandrax in Drommedaris area on Saturday 6 February 2021. Police went to search a house after receiving information. During the search 530 mandrax tablets with a street value of R31 800 were found and confiscated. The 35 year old suspect appeared at Paarl Magistrate Court on Monday 2021-02-08.

On Monday 8 February 2021, at about 19:15, members of Public Order Policing, Faure, arrested a 45-year-old male suspect of Leiden for allegedly dealing in drugs. The suspect was found in possession of 30 parcels of dagga and 31 sticks of dagga at a house in Shangani Street Leiden.

At 19:35 members of Public Order Policing, Faure, arrested a 42 year old male suspect for allegedly dealing in drugs after he was found in possession of 100 parcels of dagga in a house in Horse Sugar Court, Leiden. All the suspects will make their court appearance at Bellville Magistrates court once charged.

The abuse of illegal substances is one of the root causes of violent crime, and the members are lauded for their efforts to remove drugs from the streets.
