Five gunmen robbed the army base between the Khayelitsha and Macassar location on Tuesday after overpowering the soldiers at the base.
The suspects stormed and overpowered the soldiers on guard at the gate of 9 Infantry.
According to a source, the suspects took an R4 assault rifle and a magazine with ammunition from the soldiers. They then forced the soldiers into the base and overpowered another five soldiers in the arsenal waiting room.
From there the soldiers were forced to open the safe.
The robbers took five R4 assault rifles out of the safe and fled. In total, the thieves stole six R4 rifles and a magazine with ammunition.
