CAPE TOWN, Western Cape — The Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) is positioning itself as a key player in future coalition governments ahead of the upcoming local elections, with party leader Dr. Corné Mulder confirming the party’s readiness to participate in power-sharing agreements to ensure municipal stability.

Speaking to supporters during a community meeting in Durbanville, Dr. Mulder highlighted that the party is specifically targeting the City of Tshwane. He noted that a significant number of municipalities are likely to be governed through coalitions following the polls. The FF Plus has indicated its willingness to join these governance structures, emphasizing a commitment to providing good governance and acting as the “adult in the room” to advance community interests. Dr. Mulder also acknowledged that even the City of Cape Town could potentially transition into a coalition government, a scenario the party is fully prepared to engage with.

A central theme of the address was the current state of local government, which Dr. Mulder described as highly dysfunctional. He stressed that revitalizing this sphere is the party’s top priority, asserting that local municipalities are the most critical tier of government for delivering services to the public and turning the country’s fortunes around.

During the question-and-answer session, Dr. Mulder addressed community concerns regarding undocumented foreign nationals. He stated that recent protests directed at this issue are “understandable” given the current circumstances. The party leader argued that the solution must begin with securing the nation’s borders. While welcoming skilled individuals who follow legal channels, he emphasized that immigration must be strictly regulated.

“People are welcome to come if you need people and you need their skills, do apply and do come to South Africa with the necessary visa or the necessary permit and it can be accommodated,” Dr. Mulder explained. He added that a “free for all” approach inevitably leads to public pushback, which he described as an understandable reaction.

The community meeting also provided a platform for residents to voice their pressing local concerns. Attendees urged the party to prioritize critical issues such as rising crime rates, poor service delivery, and the impact of police raids in their neighborhoods as they formulate their electoral strategies moving forward.
