Police refuses use of private tracking dog after farm attack
Farmer beaten during attack – Western Cape

On Thursday, December 29, Mr. Joe Beaten was attacked on his farm/smallholding situated in Danielskuil, Western Cape.

Three armed suspects attacked the farmer who sustained multiple injuries, including cuts to his hands and shoulder.

The suspects fled on foot.

The South African police were called to the scene. A tracking dog from a private company was brought in to help track the suspects but the police declined to let the dog search due to official procedures that needed to be followed.

Eventually, the tracking dog was allowed to track down the suspects and tracks were found near a rubbish dump. The suspects are still at large.

Mr. Beaten is recuperating at home and remains traumatized after the brutal attack in which he had to fight for his life.

Ironically, it is the second time the South African police have refused to use private tracking dogs in the search for suspects. It is unacceptable and borders obstruction of justice.
