Three gunmen attacked Johan and Elmarie de Klerk on their farm in De Doorns in the Western Cape, on Wednesday night.

On Saturday, Capt. FC van Wyk, a police spokesman, gave confirmation of the incident to Maroela Media. “Three men, who were wearing balaclavas and gloves, overpowered the 65-year-old man when he went for a walk with his dog. The burglars broke through the security gate of the farm. They assaulted him, tied his hands, and forced him to the bedroom. ”

Van Wyk said the attackers stole an unknown amount of cash and mobile phones. “ They fled on foot.”

He confirmed De Klerk had received medical treatment for injuries he sustained during the assault. “Police are investigating a case of housebreaking. The investigation continues. ”

David Barnard, Elmarie’s brother, told Maroela Media that under the circumstances both are well, although the couple is struggling to cope with the traumatic incident. They had not slept in the house since the attack.
