A coordinated operation by Central Karoo Flying Squad members led to the seizure of over 104 kilograms of copper, valued at R120,000, and the recovery of a stolen vehicle in Prince Albert on Thursday.

The breakthrough occurred at approximately 08:00 when officers, deployed along key entry and exit routes to the Western Cape, conducted a vehicle checkpoint on the R407. During the operation, they signaled a Ford Figo to stop, but the driver sped off, prompting a high-speed chase. Police swiftly pursued and intercepted the vehicle.

Upon searching the car, officers discovered the large quantity of copper, along with an imitation firearm. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in the Eastern Cape.

The 43-year-old driver was arrested on multiple charges, including possession of suspected stolen property, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and reckless and negligent driving. He remains in police custody and is expected to appear in court once formally charged.

Authorities have praised the vigilance of the Flying Squad members, whose efforts have disrupted criminal activity in the region. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
