
Three suspects are in custody following a violent attack on a police officer outside the Delft police station early Monday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 02:05 on June 8, 2026. A police constable was standing outside the station’s Community Service Centre when he was approached by a suspect armed with an axe. The suspect allegedly struck the officer on the head, inflicting serious injuries.
A second officer witnessed the assault and immediately responded by firing warning shots. The suspects fled the scene, abandoning their vehicle in an attempt to evade capture.
A coordinated pursuit by South African Police Service (SAPS) members and LEAP officers resulted in the arrest of three individuals: two men, aged 23 and 25, and a 23-year-old woman. Police also recovered the axe believed to have been used in the attack.
The injured constable was transported to a medical facility and is reported to be in stable condition.
The three suspects remain detained and are expected to appear in court on charges related to the incident. The circumstances surrounding the attack remain under investigation by SAPS.
