In SAPS’s pursuit to disarm criminals in the Western Cape, members of the Anti-Gang Unit teamed up with Bellville South detective’s on 14 September 2022, at around 16:00 and conducted an intelligence driven operation at a garage in Kasselsvlei Road.

Information suggested that the occupants of two vehicles, will meet at the garage for an illegal firearm transaction.

Upon the arrival of the targets, the vehicles were searched which resulted in the discovery of a 9mm pistol without a serial number and two magazines in one of the vehicles.

The driver, a 34-year-old man was arrested and further interrogation led SAPS to his residence in De Wet Street Bellville South where an arms cache comprising seven firearms, two revolver frames, two gas guns and an assortment of ammunition were discovered in a small room attached to his house.

The circumstances surrounding the suspect’s possession of the firearms and ammunition are under investigation while he is awaiting his court appearance in Bellville on charges of possession of prohibited firearms, illegal possession of firearms and the illegal possession of ammunition.
