99 of 219 arrests were drug related, Blue Downs Cluster

In our pursuit to ensure that criminals are brought to book in the Blue Downs Cluster, continued crime operations have been executed during the weekend from Friday 22 until Sunday morning 24 December 2017, which resulted in the arrest of 219 suspects. Of these arrests, 99 were made for drug related offences.

On 23 December 2017, in Belhar, members were doing stop and searches when they apprehended a 24 year old male in possession of a firearm. He was detained and charged with possession of unlicensed firearm.

At approximately 12:00 on Friday, 22 December 2017, Delft SAPS in conjunction with Law Enforcement executed a search warrant at a house in Voorbrug in Delft, where they found a variety of drugs comprising tik, mandrax tablets and ecstasy with an estimated street value of R224 308. Presumed stolen property was also found on the premises. Two females and one male aged between 29 and 34 years were arrested and face charges of dealing in drugs and possession of presumed stolen goods.

On Saturday, 23 December 2017, Delft SAPS in conjunction with Law Enforcement acted on information regarding drugs received from the community of a house in N2 gateway. Upon arrival at the house, the police were greeted with a smell of dagga. When they searched the premises they found parcels of dagga and dagga in bags. The dagga is estimated at a street value of R21 800. The suspect, a 58 year old male was arrested and charged with dealing in drugs.

In a separate incident on Saturday, 23 December 2017, while the police were patrolling and visiting drug houses in Delft, they’ve spotted a vehicle that drove away when the police arrived. Following a brief pursuit the vehicle collided with another vehicle. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of crushed mandrax with an estimated street value of R5 000.

The suspect, a 42 year old male was arrested and face charges of dealing in drugs and reckless and negligent driving.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lt Gen KE Jula commended the members of SAPS and other law enforcement agencies for their efforts in creating a safer environment for the people in this province.
