The Mitchells Plain Cluster is clamping down on crime and criminal activities in the eight policing precincts. Execution of search warrants, searching of wanted suspects, high density patrols and visible policing as well as visiting second hand dealers and shebeens were part of the crime fighting initiatives.
Our detectives have arrested a total of 150 wanted persons in various tracing operations within the cluster.
Second hand dealers and liquor operations were also held within the cluster as from yesterday 09:00 until 18:00 with the focus on Philippi and Mitchells Plain. Three second hand goods premises were visited in Tafall Road and Govan Mbeki Road, Philippi and fines totaling R4 000 for issued for various offences of non-compliance.
Liquor outlets and shebeen operations also took priority in order to prevent drugs and alcohol abuse, especially in disadvantage communities which usually result to assault and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, child abuse and domestic violence.
Liquor addresses were also visited in Mohogany Circle, Johndown Walk and Recife Court, Hanover Park as well as an illegal liquor outlet in Matroosberg Street, Tafelsig and 140 litres of liquor were confiscated.
Two females aged 46 and 60 were arrested for dealing in liquor without a valid liquor licence. A drug house was also searched in Isiqalo settlement.
A roadblock was held in AZ Berman Drive and 65 vehicles were searched.
Western Cape Provincial Commission Lt Gen KE Jula says that the police will maintain a zero tolerance approach in preventing crime and investigation of crime. He further applauded all members who participated during these operations together with other security forces joined the operations.
