131 Suspects arrested for crimes ranging from drugs to murder
Five suspects arrested after gruesome farm attack

Blue Downs Cluster weekend operations net 131 suspects for crimes ranging from drugs to murder. Through disruptive operations that were executed during this weekend, a total of 131 suspects have been arrested. Alcohol in the amount of 320.730 litres was confiscated and 23 arrests for possession of dangerous weapons were made. The confiscated knives and screwdrivers are also the main contributors to the murders that took place.

Delft SAPS: At approximately 23:50 on Friday, 26 August 2016 police were conducting stop and search operations at Roosendal Avenue, when they stopped a vehicle that had six occupants in it. Two firearms were found. A black firearm had seven rounds of ammunition and had a serial number. This firearm was linked to a case of a stolen firearm in Stellenbosch in July 2013. The second firearm, a .38 special, had 5 rounds of ammunition and had its serial number filed off.

Delft SAPS: While conducting a cordon and search operation at Blikkiesdorp on Friday 26 August 2016, police found a refuse bag with dagga (cannabis) in it. The dagga weighed 8 015 kg and a 34 year old woman was arrested.

Belhar SAPS: On Saturday, 27 August 2016 at approximately 03:50, three suspects including two men (aged 31 and 34) and a 25 year old woman, were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm. The Flying Squad Unit was busy patrolling when they spotted a vehicle jumping red traffic lights. Police chased after the vehicle and found a firearm with six rounds of ammunition on the suspects.

Ravensmead SAPS: On Sunday 28 August 2016 at approximately 01:30 police were patrolling in Eureka Estate when they stopped and searched a 27 year old suspect who was walking in the street. A firearm was found in his possession with five rounds of ammunition. He was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Delft SAPS: At approximately 06:00 today police attended to a murder scene where they found the deceased lying in Auber Street in Delft South. Police followed up information and arrested two male suspects (18 years old) who had assaulted and stabbed their victim to death, due to a quarrel about a beer, which had been taken by the suspects from the deceased’s brother. The 23 year old victim was intervening on behalf of his brother when was attacked. Two other suspects are still at large.

Mfuleni SAPS: At approximately 01:45 this morning police attended to a scene of murder in Mfuleni, in Tokwana Street. The deceased had been stabbed with a knife. Police arrested two men of 26 years and 30 years and they were charged with murder.

The Blue Downs Cluster Commander, Major General Vincent Beaton, commended the SA Police Service members, Metro Police, Law Enforcement officers, Traffic Police, neighborhood watch and safety structures, as well as reservists, for their input, dedication and commitment in ensuring that the perpetrators of crime are brought to justice. He further encouraged the community to keep on assisting the police in ridding their neighborhoods of criminal elements.
