Warehouse robbers arrested

Five men were nabbed after they allegedly stole items worth millions of rands from 14 warehouses around Midrand on Wednesday, said Johannesburg police.

The police received a tip-off about the planned robbery at about 19:00 on Tuesday, said Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela.

At about 01:40, they spotted two trucks and two cars travelling in convoy along the M1.

“They stopped the vehicles on the M1 South on-ramp near Woodmead. They found lots of boxes in the vehicles and inside the boxes there was shoes, clothing, carpets, hospital beds and a lot of other things,” said Maphakela.

The five men were immediately arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen goods.

They were expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
