Two men die in Pinetown shooting

Police are investigating a double murder which saw two men die in a hail of gunfire in Pinetown on Wednesday night.

The shooting and the investigation by police effectively shut down Hill Street after darkness fell.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala told News24 that two men had arrived at premises close to a taxi rank in the street when the shooting started.

“They arrived at Esibayeni in their Silver Double Cab in Hill Street when two unknown suspects fired shots at one man who had been attempting to open the gate, fatally wounding him,” she said.

“Another man jumped out of the vehicle and tried to run away. He came under fire and he was also fatally wounded. The suspects fled the crime scene on foot,” she added.

Gwala said that two counts of murder were opened at the Pinetown police station. No arrests had yet been made.
