The president of the Central Energy Fund, Luvo Makasi, resigned on Friday 15 March 2019, just before being fired. He is reportedly involved in alleged attempts to negotiate bribes from oil traders.
The efforts were apparently on behalf of three senior ANC leaders and the amount involved amounted to $2.5 million that would be sourced from the Glencore and Vitol firms.
The names of Jeff Radebe, David Mabuza and Paul Mashatile are named as potential beneficiaries of the bribe deal. However, Jeff Radebe’s office said that Makasi was fired by Radebe after reports of the bribe deal became known.
