Teens ‘invited to watch’ gay murder

Cape Town – A man has appeared in court in connection with the murder of a gay man in Ceres last weekend, Western Cape police say. Colonel Andre Traut told News24 that the 28-year-old suspect was arrested last Sunday and appeared in court on a charge of murder on Tuesday.

He was remanded in custody and will return to court on 3 April.

Die Son newspaper reported that David Olyn, 21, from Ceres, was tortured and killed in what appeared to be a hate crime. He was openly gay and had participated in local drag pageants.
