On 12 June 2019, Mpumalanga police arrested a 26 year old suspect for murder. It is alleged that in the early hours of 12 June 2019, Constable Thandiwe Mavaneni (33) was shot and injured after a domestic dispute whilst at her premises on Mageba Road in Mpumalanga. She sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital where she died on arrival.

A case of murder was opened at Mpumalanga police station for investigation. The suspect was immediately arrested and he will be charged for murder. He will appear in the Mpumalanga Magistrates Court on 14 June 2019. A firearm was seized and will be subjected to ballistic tests. The deceased was stationed at Inchanga police station.

Police management in KwaZulu-Natal has extended their commiserations to the family and friends of Constable Mavaneni. Her death came as a shock to police officers at Inchanga and Mpumalanga police stations who were confronted with the gruesome incident.
