Security guard and robber shot dead in cash-in-transit robbery

A security guard and a robber have died following a shoot-out during a cash-in-transit robbery in Tokoza, Katlehong, on Thursday morning, Gauteng police said.

The security guard was shot at about 10:30 when he was approached by three men while delivering money to an ATM at a small shopping complex in Tokoza Unit F, on the East Rand, spokesperson Captain Mega Ndobe said.

“Three suspects attacked him, one suspect shot at him once and they took the money. The back-up security guard managed to shoot one of them [robbers], but they ran away.”

The injured robber was found dead about 50m from the initial shooting scene, Ndobe said.

An unlicensed firearm was also recovered. The other two robbers were still at large, with an undisclosed amount of cash, he said. A murder, attempted murder and cash-in-transit robbery case was opened.
