The SABC is in such a pickle that they have begun a process of retrenchment to save costs.
It is not certain at this stage how many employees will be retrenched, and especially contract workers are no longer secure in their jobs. However, it is currently speculated that between 600 and 800 people can be retrenched.
Meanwhile, more and more people are getting their TV licenses canceled because of the SABC’s serving of the government and its interests.
Moreover, the SABC has no longer got the ability to inspect licenses.
