Members from Atteridgeville were on patrol along WF Nkomo Street on Friday, 17 January 2020, when they picked up a signal for backup in support of a Chopper and the Flying Squad that were in pursuit of two vehicles stolen during a house robbery in Rustenburg earlier in the day.

The members spotted at the corner of Schuveberg and WF Nkomo Streets, a vehicle matching the description of one of the stolen vehicles and it is alleged that on attempting to stop the vehicle, the suspect pointed a firearm at the members.

Police fired shots and the suspect was injured.

The 30 year old suspect is in a stable condition in hospital under police guard. He has been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, while the possibility of more charges being added cannot be ruled out.

Police seized the vehicle, the firearm and ammunition for further investigation.

The suspect will appear before Court in due course.
