Robbery and shootout – Springfield Park, Durban

On July 11, 2015 at around 05:10 one of Marshall Security’s unarmed security officers at an industrial park in Teakfield Road called their control room for assistance, he reported that suspects were on site and that he had observed the suspects arriving in a white SUV and were cutting the chain on the rear gate to the complex with a bolt cutter.

The control room immediately dispatched numerous armed response vehicles to the scene. The suspects managed to force open the side door to a warehouse and took 2 computer towers and 2 monitors from the premises, they also went into the server room but there is a pepper spray system in place which prevented them from taking anything further.

The first vehicle to respond observed a suspect standing watch at the outer gate with a rifle. The other response vehicles positioned their vehicles at the Beechfield Road intersection. As the suspects came towards the intersection, they noticed Marshall Security vehicles and opened fire, the response officers returned fire into the suspect vehicle.

The suspects, fled via Inanda road towards Kwa-Mashu. Marshall Security pursued the vehicle but lost it on Inanda Road, some of the vehicles sustained bullet holes in the shootout but thankfully none of Marshall Security officers was injured.

Reports were received that two males attempted to get medical treatment at the Kwa Mashu poly clinic for gun shot wounds which is being investigated.
