Police vigilance yielded success when men in blue discovered a white vehicle and truck on the Griekwastad Road near Kimberley. On 28 June 2017 at approximately 23:00, police came to the rescue of two men who were allegedly hi-jacked by seven unknown men while travelling in a meat truck near Kimberley en-route to Upington.
The police stopped and searched the suspicious looking vehicle while the meat truck took a turn back to Kimberley with four of the seven suspects. Police found the driver and his passenger allegedly being held hostage by the men at gun point. It was later discovered that the firearm was a toy pistol. The truck was later found abandoned with the meat cargo in a veld near Riviera in Kimberley. The four suspects are still at large. It was also discovered that one of the suspects is a police officer at a local police station in the Northern Cape. The suspects are between the ages of 26 and 31 and should be appearing in the Kimberley Magistrates Court soon.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner for the Northern Cape, Maj Gen Koliswa Otola commended the SAPS Flying Squad and members from Kimberley, Galeshewe and Roodepan Visible policing for their swift and lightning fast response that led to this positive arrests. The investigation continues.
