NORTHERN CAPE — A significant Prieska drug arrest has resulted in a 25-year-old man facing charges of dealing in drugs after law enforcement officers intercepted a substantial quantity of illicit substances. The operation, which led to the confiscation of dagga with an estimated street value exceeding R8,000, underscores ongoing efforts to combat narcotics trafficking within the Pixley ka Seme District.
The incident unfolded on Saturday, 11 July 2026, while officers from the Prieska Police Station were executing standard crime-prevention patrols along Hector Street. According to official reports, the suspect began exhibiting suspicious behavior the moment he noticed a marked police vehicle approaching. Instead of continuing on his path, the individual reportedly ducked into an adjacent yard in an apparent attempt to conceal an object from plain sight.
Acting swiftly on these observations, the patrol members confronted the individual and conducted a search of the immediate vicinity. This search yielded a blue 20-litre bucket packed with dagga. In addition to the narcotics, officers also confiscated cash that was found in the suspect’s possession. Both the illicit substances and the money have been secured as evidence for the continuing investigation.
Following the recovery of the contraband, the 25-year-old was taken into custody and formally charged with dealing in drugs. He is scheduled to make his first appearance before the Prieska Magistrate’s Court in the near future to answer to the allegations.
