NORTHERN CAPE — A suspected drug dealer was arrested and significant quantities of narcotics were confiscated during a major Komaggas drug bust conducted by the South African Police Service (SAPS) under Operation Shanela II.
On Friday, July 3, 2026, members attached to the Namakwa District Task Team, Namakwa Detectives, and the Springbok K9 Unit executed a targeted search-and-seizure operation at a residence on Rugby Street. Upon arrival, officers tactically secured the premises and formally informed the occupant of the purpose of the search.
A thorough sweep of the property led to the discovery and seizure of substantial quantities of mandrax tablets and tik, which authorities suspect were intended for distribution. In addition to the narcotics, police confiscated cash believed to be the proceeds of illicit drug dealing.
Following the seizure, a male suspect was arrested at the scene. He is expected to appear before the Springbok Magistrate’s Court to face charges related to the possession of and dealing in drugs.
Brigadier Schalk Andrews, the District Commissioner of Namakwa, commended the involved officers for their commitment and dedication to disrupting the illegal drug trade in the region.
Addressing the public, Brigadier Andrews urged community members to remain vigilant. He emphasized the importance of working in partnership with SAPS by reporting criminal activities to assist in eradicating the scourge of drugs from local communities.
