Crime Prevention Operation dubbed “Operation Sabela” continues to lock down criminal activities throughout the Northern Cape Province. Men and women in blue reclaimed the streets in Frances Baard, John Taolo Gaetsewe, Pixley Ka Seme, ZF Mgcawu and Namaqua clusters with 91 police stations, occupied identified hot spots.

On Friday,12 July 2019 in Kimberley the law enforcement agencies, members from Department Home Affairs, Northern Cape Provincial Traffic Officers, Sol Plaatje Municipality Traffic Officers, South African Police Units which includes Crime Intelligence, Detectives and other provincial components, Galeshewe, Kagisho, Roodepan and Kimberley police stations jointly conducted crime prevention duties.

Roadblocks were held simultaneously on N8 route leading to Kimberley and Bloemfontein and on N12 route between Kimberley and Warrenton. Our policing focus during roadblock was to search for stolen vehicles, unlicensed firearms, transportation of stolen goods, undocumented persons and transportation of illicit drugs. Motorists were issued with fines worth more than R15 000 for contravention of the Road Traffic Act, driving motor vehicle without valid driver’s licences and for vehicle which were not roadworthy.

Three suspects aged between 16 and 24 were arrested after found in possession of copper weighing 46.43kg at a roadblock on N12 near Kimberley. The suspects are expected to appear before the Kimberley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 15 July 2019 on a count of possession suspected stolen copper.

During the operation members of the Northern Cape Flying Squad and K9 Unit acted on intelligence led information, which resulted in the arrest of three suspects in Jan Kempdorp for dealing in drugs. The suspects’ home was searched and more than hundred units of mandrax tablets were found in their possession. The suspects were also found in possession of bank debit cards, SASSA debit cards and identity documents. Our preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects could be lending out money and also giving out drugs on credit and withheld customers bank debit cards and Identity documents as security.

The suspects are expected to appear before Jan Kempdorp Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 15 July 2019 on a count of dealing in drugs.

Liquor was confiscated and fines to the value of R1 500 issued for contravening the Northern Cape Liquor Act 2 of 2008 Section 47.

A murder suspect who was on the run, after murdering a 16 year old boy this year March has been arrested. He was found hiding in a house in Galeshewe. He is expected to appear before the Galeshewe Magistrates’ Court On Monday, 15 July 2019.

It is alleged that the suspect stabbed the boy to death, when they robbed him of his Adidas sneakers and denim jacket.
