VOSBURG — Following a severe Vosburg spade assault that left a 23-year-old woman injured, a 22-year-old man has been handed a suspended sentence by the Carnarvon Regional Court. The conviction concludes a meticulous probe by the local Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit into the domestic violence incident.

The violent encounter took place in the early hours of Friday, 31 October 2025. Court records indicate the victim was socializing at a local tavern when her life partner arrived at roughly 01:14. He informed her that their child was awake, prompting the couple to return to their Vosburg residence. Upon arriving, the victim went directly to sleep.

She was abruptly awakened by a strike to her face. Turning around, she discovered her partner standing beside the bed armed with a spade. The accused then proceeded to repeatedly beat her across the body and face with the tool. Her cries for help were heard by her aunt, who was staying in the same house and rushed to intervene and assist the victim.

Authorities were immediately notified, leading the Vosburg Police Station to open a docket for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH). Warrant Officer Floris Jacobus Fritz of the Carnarvon FCS Unit was tasked with the investigation. His diligent evidence gathering ultimately secured the perpetrator’s conviction.

On Wednesday, 24 June 2026, the Regional Court in Carnarvon found the 22-year-old guilty. The court sentenced him to six years in prison, which was wholly suspended for a five-year period.

Major General Nomana Mtukushe, the District Commissioner for the Pixley ka Seme District, publicly praised Warrant Officer Fritz. She highlighted his thorough investigative work as the critical factor in ensuring the victim received justice.
