The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in the Northern Cape has successfully opposed bail for four of the suspects, including two police officials, allegedly involved in a cash heist at the G4S security base in Kimberley earlier this year.
In a statement, Hawks spokesperson Captain Philani Nkwalase said Sergeant Samuel Jantjies, 45, Constable Hendrik Daniels, 35, Jennifer Claasen, 46, and Jean Pierre Wolfaard, 26, were denied bail when they all appeared at Kimberley Magistrates on Monday.
“Four other suspects, Densel Deon Jantjies, 35, Conrad Christopher Buys, 25, Charles Buys, 61, and Andries Buys, 38, were all released on R10,000 bail,” Nkwalase said. “Their case was postponed to 29 September for further investigation.”
According to the Hawks, the incident happened on May 6 at about 7pm at the G4S base in Kimberley, when three armed men gained accesses to the premises and took off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
“Five suspects were arrested between 20-22 July, while others were arrested shortly after,” Nkwalase said. “Over 1.4 million rand was recovered and an assortment of new household furniture, as well as several vehicles purchased, were seized.”
