The Kimberley Regional Court has sentenced 44-year-old Mirriam Leshiba Tau to eight years’ direct imprisonment for conspiring to murder her husband.
The court heard that in May 2022, Tau approached a community member seeking help to orchestrate her husband’s kidnapping and murder. The individual alerted authorities, prompting a swift investigation by the Northern Cape Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Investigation Unit, supported by Crime Intelligence.
Lieutenant Colonel Doggy Magugu led the operation that resulted in Tau’s arrest on Sunday, 15 May 2022, before the murder plot could be carried out. She was formally charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
The investigation, spearheaded by Warrant Officer Eunice Goeiman and Constable Mpumelelo Maruping, ensured that bail was successfully opposed and contributed to securing a conviction. Their meticulous work was pivotal in the case.
In addition to the prison term, the court declared Tau unfit to possess a firearm under the Firearms Control Act.
Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in the Northern Cape, praised the investigating officers for their dedication in delivering justice.
