Kimberley rapist sentenced to an effective 20 years imprisonment

The police welcomes the sentencing that was handed down to Marvin Matthews (31) in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on 29 November 2018. The accused was found guilty on two separate rape incidents for which he received ten and twenty years imprisonment respectively. He was sentenced a further 3 years for assault GBH (grievous bodily harm) of a third female victim that was stabbed with a knife.

The accused is known to his victims whom he raped in two separate incidents during December 2011 and December 2012 in Kimberley. Matthews at the same time stood trial for an attempted rape of February 2012, but was only found guilty on assault GBH in this case.

The female victims are all between the ages of 28 and 32 years old, respectively. The sentences will all run concurrently, therefore Matthews will serve an effective twenty years imprisonment.
