The Northern Cape Police Management welcomed 15 years jail term handed to a 29 year old Tshepang Donald Phelane and applauded the investigating officer for ensuring that accused in this matter were brought to book.
The Kimberley Regional Court found Tshepang guilty and sentenced him to an effective 15 years imprisonment for robbing a Jewellery Store off merchandises which includes jewellery and cellphones worth R250 000. Tshepang was sentenced on Monday, 12 August 2018 after he pleaded guilty to crime of robbery he committed. Meanwhile his accomplices are still in custody as the trial is ongoing.
On the 18 November 2015, Tshepang together with his four accomplices entered the jewellery store in Phakamile Mabija in the Kimberley CBD pretended as if they were customers who wanted to purchase cell phone and jewellery.
They drew out firearms while they were being attended to by the sales ladies in the store and forced them inside the store room. They loaded bags with the merchandises and fled the scene into unknown direction.
They were almost on the loose for three years, however the long-arm of the law caught –up with them, early 2018 in Kuruman. R80 000 worth merchandises which they took from the jewellery store at gunpoint were recovered subsequent to their arrest.
The police will continue bring crime perpetrators to book.
