Kimberley Specialised Commercial Crime court sentenced Mr Method Nkonjani Gqetywa (53) for contravention of sections of Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act 12 of 2004.
The accused served as an Assistant Master at Kimberley High Court in the Northern Cape. Gqetywa was arrested on 18 July 2019 after a complaint was laid against him for demanding to be paid gratification to perform his official duties. The accused demanded gratification of R7000-00 each from two clients who needed to be assisted with estate claims, he promised the clients that their claims will be fast tracked. Kimberley Serious Corruption Investigation investigated the claims and arrangements were made to entrap the accused with R15 000-00 as demanded in line with the provision of Section 252A of the Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977.
On 23 August 2023, the accused was found guilty and sentenced on Friday, 10 November 2023. Method Nkonjani Gqetywa was sentenced to (7) years direct imprisonment of which (3) years is suspended. The accused will therefore serve (5) years.
