Two robbery accused, Robert Taylor(41) and Shaun Anthony(41), will spend the next seven years of their lives in prison after they were found guilty of an attempted robbery at Hancor in Kimberley in 2009.

Both men were appearing at the Regional Court in Kimberley on 23 January 2019 after a lengthy nine years of investigations, court appearances and postponements.

They were each sentenced to ten years imprisonment although three years of their sentence was suspended for five years. Their arrest followed after the police reacted on information received about the attempted robbery incident at Hancor premises in Kimberley on Tuesday 28 July 2009 at about 18:10.

While searching for the suspects, the police came across their vehicle and stopped and searched them following their unsuccessful robbery stunts. They were found in possession of a 9mm Norinco pistol with one magazine and six rounds of ammunition.

The case was investigated by Detective Warrant Officer Henk van der Merwe of Kimberley Detectives. He was applauded by his Commander, Colonel Rassie Victor and the Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lt Gen Risimati Shivuri.
