Police in Galeshewe in Kimberley have arrest four men believed to be linked to the gruesome murder of a 73-year-old man in Galeshewe, Northern Cape police said on Sunday.
The man was abducted while driving into the driveway at his house in Galeshewe in the evening of September 24, Captain T Olebogeng Tawana said.
The next day, a passerby found his body near a sewage pump in Galeshewe. His hands and feet and been bound and he had been strangled and robbed of an undisclosed amount of money.
“One of the four suspects was arrested in Weenen, KwaZulu-Natal, after being found in possession of the vehicle which belonged to the deceased, while three suspects were [subsequently] arrested in Galeshewe.”
Two unlicenced firearms and the stolen money were recovered. The suspects, aged between 28 and 35, faced charges of murder, aggravated robbery, theft of motor vehicle, and possession of unlicenced firearms. They would appear in the Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court on Monday, Tawana said.
In a separate incident, two men, aged 28 and 49, were arrested following the murder of a 29-year-old man in Parson Lane, Kimberley.
“It is alleged that the duo had an argument with the deceased in the early hours of Sunday, 2 October 2016. During the argument the suspects hit the deceased with a hammer and fatally stabbed him. The deceased suffered multiple stab wounds on both [his] upper and lower body and was declared dead on the scene.”
The suspects were arrested on the scene and charged with murder. They would appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, Tawana said.
