A farm attack took place in the early morning hours, on Wednesday 12 January 2022, on the farm De Bruynsrust in Vanwyksvlei, in the Northern Cape province of South Africa.

Marie de Bruyn (79), was alone in the farmhouse when a worker of many years attacked the farmhouse, broke the windows of the house and attacked her in the house with a pickaxe handle.

He allegedly also fired shots with a firearm he took from the house.

Mrs de Bruyn lives on the farm with her daughter and son-in-law but they were not on the farm at the time of the incident.

She received medical attention and thankfully her injuries are not life threatening but she is very traumatized.

Details of the attack were distributed on social media. .

Police did arrest the worker and he is in detention.

It is not known at this stage what caused the farm worker to attack the the elderly woman, basically the hand that fed him.

There has been an uptick recently where especially the elderly have been attacked by their own house and farm workers.
Just recently Sharon-Lee Deetlets (62) of Pinetown was murdered by her own gardener.
