Mr Masore Matewous Teshale, 42, an Ethiopian National was convicted by the Kimberley Magistrate Court following a charge of corruption.

A joint intelligence driven operation between the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigating Unit, Crime Intelligence and Home Affairs Immigration led to the arrest of Teshale on 6 January 2019. This follows a tip off about his attempt to bribe the Home Affairs Immigration Officer in Kimberley.

The Hawks swiftly acted on information and a waylay investigation was put in place to intercept the transaction.

Teshale offered to pay R6000.00 to the Home affairs official in order to facilitate the unlawful release of his fellow Ethiopian friend from custody.

Last week Thursday, the court found Teshale guilty of corruption in terms of section 3 (b) Act 12 of 2004 and was fined R5000.00 or five years imprisonment and further six years imprisonment wholly suspended for five years. The accused has been declared unfit to possess firearm.
