An intensive six days of searching for a missing 2 year old girl, resulted tin the gruesome discovery of the toddler’s body in the Vaal River.
The Northern Cape Police Search and Rescue, K9 Unit, Mounted Unit, Visible Police, Detectives and Diving Unit made a gruesome discovery of the body of the girl on 25 April 2019, at about 12:50 submerged under water in the Vaal River, in Delportshoop. The girl’s body was found bound with a large rock.
The baby girl was reported to have been snatched by a 41 year old man after attempting to rape the toddler’s mother in her house over Easter weekend. The toddler’s clothes was found just few meters away from the Vaal River earlier this week.
A 41 year old man was arrested, and appeared before the Barkly West Magistrate’s Court on charges of attempted rape, housebreaking with intent to assault and Kidnapping. However, a murder charge will be added.
The Northern Cape police management condemned crime against women and children in strongest terms.
