NORTHERN CAPE – Colesberg police have arrested a suspected drug dealer following a major R150,000 dagga seizure, marking a significant operational success for local law enforcement. The arrest underscores the critical impact of coordinated vigilance between community members and police units in combating illicit substance trafficking.

The 50-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Monday, 13 July 2026, after attempting to collect three suspicious parcels from a local retail store. An alert cashier at the establishment recognized the irregular nature of the transaction and promptly facilitated the intervention of the Highway Patrol Unit.

Acting swiftly on this intelligence, officers intercepted the individual near the local taxi rank. A subsequent search of the confiscated parcels revealed thousands of small packets of dagga, with the total estimated street value reaching R150,000.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court in the near future to face formal charges of dealing in drugs.

In an official statement regarding the operation, the Northern Cape Provincial Management commended the members of the Highway Patrol Unit and the retail cashier for their swift response, alertness, and unwavering vigilance in removing illicit substances from the community.
