The SAPS in Upington welcomes the life sentence for murder and 15 years for robbery, that was handed down by the Northern Cape High Court to Piet Jors on Thursday, 17 October 2019.

On the morning of Saturday 26 January 2019, Mr Frederick Rademeyer (71) was robbed of his cash, cellphone and was brutally murdered at his home in Upington. His body was found by the gardener when he was reporting for duty that morning who immediately informed the police.

An extensive manhunt was launched whereby members of Upington SAPS Serious and Violent Crimes led by Lieutenant Colonel Doggie Magugu and Detective Constable Vanessa Van der Westhuizen managed to trace and arrest Piet Jors (31).

Jors remained in custody while the investigation continued and he was linked to the murder through fingerprint Identification lifted by Constable Clarence Duiker of LCRC Upington. Piet Jors pleaded guilty to both counts when the trial commenced.

The Acting Station Commander and Head of Detectives in Upington, Colonel Eve April commended the members for their sterling investigation and the NPA and Department of Justice for concluding the case speedily.
