Members of De Aar Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit arrested a 37 year old man in connection with the rape of an elderly woman.
The suspect allegedly raped an 82 year old woman at Noupoort on 18 April 2020, at about 02:00 in the morning. It is reported the old woman was asleep at her home when the suspect broke into the house. The victim tried to resist the intruder but was allegedly strangled and then raped.
The victim received medical treatment at the local hospital for minor injuries on her neck.
An intensive search for the suspect was immediately launched and was arrested on the afternoon of 18 April 2020, at about 15:00 around Noupoort.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Noupoort Magistrates court on 20 April 2020.
The Provincial Head of Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, Brig Nicky Mills has applauded members for making sure that the suspect is arrested in order to face the full might of the law.
