Wounded Mooinooi farm attack victim was in a gun battle for survival

A farm attack took place on Sunday 24 April 2022 on a smallholding at Barnardsvlei, near Mooinooi in Northwest province of South Africa.

Hannes Robbertze (59) heard a noise in the house early in the morning and got up to investigate. His wife Daleen (63) was still sleeping.

Hannes walked into a black male who was already in the lounge area whilst another black male was busy climbing through the window. There were other black males still outside.

Hannes ran back to the bedroom and whilst he was running down the passage, he was shot two times from behind. He was hit in the left leg and left arm near to his elbow.

Despite his wounds Hannes managed to retrieve his firearm from the room and he moved back into the passage and opened fire on the attackers causing them to flee.

His brave actions saved the couple from what could have been a devastating scenario.

Two of the neighbours responded and helped where they could. A medical doctor who stays in the area also came to assist.

Hannes was transported to the Netcare private hospital in Rustenburg but had to be transferred to a state hospital.

Hannes now awaits an operation to remove the bullets in his body.

The Police is investigating the incident but no arrest had been made.
