Two rangers appeared before Bushbuckridge Magistrate Court yesterday, 20 June 2016, facing charges relating to Rhino poaching. The suspects were arrested at Skukuza Camp in the Kruger National park after they were found In possession of 4 rhino horns worth more than R2 million. The suspects were denied bail and the case was postponed to Wednesday, 22 June 2016.

The Agriculture and Environmental Affairs MEC Meshack Radebe, referring to park rangers, said that these men and women lay down their lives to protect the rhino. He stated that without their commitment the fight against poachers would fail.

It is indeed sad that the rangers have resorted to the corruption and intimidation of syndicates, when they were employed to protect the rhinos.

Well done to the South African Police for arresting the evil perpetrators. The South African justice system often gives bail for hardened criminals such as murderers and rapists and these two suspects were denied bail. Denying bail is a good, and they should suffer the consequences of their action. It is disturbing that the justice system gives bail to the murderers who often roam the streets while out on bail.

Rhino poaching needs to be stopped, Rhino horn is a commodity for local and international crime syndicates. The United Nations have recognized Rhino Horn poaching as a way of funding terrorist organizations.
