Stabilisation operations in the province continue to bring more suspects to book. This became evident when various police units arrested 20 suspects in Klerksdorp during an operation on Thursday, 25 October 2018.

The suspects include 15 that were arrested for illicit mining at Shaft 3, Orkney. During the arrest, the police seized various equipment and gold dust.

In Khuma, the police went to a premises where a house and Toyota Quantum vehicle were searched. It was during the search that five suspects were arrested, while 2140 kilogram of suspected stolen copper cable as well as equipment used to cut copper cables were confiscated.

Three firearms, two shotguns and a revolver were also confiscated during the operation. It was established that one of the shotguns was allegedly stolen during burglary in Wilkoppies, Klerksdorp between 12 and 15 October 2018. Further investigation revealed that the second shotgun was allegedly robbed during a house robbery committed in Flamwood, Klerksdorp in the early hours of the morning on Monday, 15 October 2018.

All suspects are expected to appear in court soon.

In Brits, 120 suspects were arrested during stabilisation operations between 10 and 14 October 2018 for various offences. The arrested suspects include 29 for illegal dealing in liquor, 63 for drinking in public, 19 for drug related offences, 6 for sexual offences, 1 for common robbery and 1 for contravention of the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act (Act No. 54 of 1972).

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane commended the police and other role players for their cooperation and commitment that led to the successes. She said that multidisciplinary operations will continue to ensure that perpetrators are brought to book.
