The provincial police management in North West condemned an incident in which a group of community members of Ganyesa disrupted court proceedings on Tuesday, 3 April 2018.

The condemnation follows an incident in which the group burnt tyres and went to the local Magistrates Court where they burnt a guard house and a court reception area, thus disrupted the proceedings on Tuesday, 3 April 2018.

At the time of the disruption, two suspects aged 24 and 30 were appearing following their arrest on Monday, 2 April 2018 for two counts of murder, four of attempted murder, carjacking, business robbery, rape, kidnapping as well as illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

The accused were reminded in custody until Wednesday, 11 April 2018.

As part of the protest, a car was burnt while goods were looted from shops. In order to deal with lawlessness, the police arrested 12 suspects aged between 22 and 48 for public violence and business burglary. They are expected to appear in the Vryburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 09 April 2018.

The North West Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Ryno Naidoo once more urged members of the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and allow the police continue with their investigations. He said further that the police will not allow lawlessness including disrupting court proceedings as that is tantamount to attacking the authority of the state.
