VORSTERSHOOP — An intelligence-led immigration operation in the Vorstershoop policing area has resulted in a North West farm owner being fined R250,000 after police arrested 23 undocumented foreign nationals suspected of being illegally employed on the property.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) intercepted two vehicles—a white Isuzu truck and a white Toyota Land Cruiser single cab—while patrolling the R379 gravel road. Upon noticing the police presence, several passengers abandoned the vehicles and fled into adjacent agricultural properties.
Officers detained the driver and the farm owner at the scene. Law enforcement then instructed the farmer to recall the individuals who had fled. The occupants complied and returned voluntarily to undergo identity verification. Working alongside the Department of Home Affairs in Ganyesa, authorities confirmed that the suspects’ immigration papers were either invalid or had expired.
The 23 apprehended individuals, whose ages range from 21 to 49, are now in police custody. Meanwhile, the employer faces severe financial penalties; the farm owner was issued an admission of guilt fine totaling R250,000 for the alleged employment of illegal foreign workers.
The arrested suspects are scheduled to make their first court appearance at the Ganyesa Magistrate Court on Monday, 29 June 2026.
