Human trafficking rapist gets eight life sentences

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Baile Motsweyane welcomed life sentences that were handed down to another rapist in the province.

This is after the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria sentenced a 47 year old accused to eight life sentences on Friday, 13 July 2018.

He was found guilty and sentenced to life on seven counts of rape and one of human trafficking. The accused who is the uncle to one of the victims aged 15, fetched her in Mozambique in December 2015 and brought her to Sonop, Brits after promising her a job. He raped the victim who stayed with him several times until she got pregnant.

The matter was reported to the police in April 2016 after the victim escaped from the accused’s place. The paternity tests have since confirmed that the accused is the father.

Consequent to a thorough investigation, the accused was arrested on Wednesday, 13 April 2016. He has been in custody since his arrest after his bail application was successfully opposed.

While the accused was still in custody, the Investigating Officer received and followed up information that the accused raped three minors aged 8, 10 and 11. Further investigation into the matter revealed that the accused raped all three victims including his step daughter at Geluk informal settlement between 2014 and 2015.

The Provincial Commissioner applauded the Investigating Officer, Constable Aubrey Ndubane and other role players for their commitment that led to the conviction. She said that the sentence that came seven days after two life sentences that were given to a serial rapist by Bafokeng Regional Court, will serve as an indication that no stone will be left unturned in dealing with sexual offenders.
