Hefty sentences handed to five farm attackers by North West High Court

The provincial police management welcomed hefty sentences handed to five accused by North West High Court on Thursday, 17 November 2016. This is after the accused were sentenced to four life and a combined 140 years imprisonment for murder, burglaries and robberies committed at five farms in Zeerust between 2012 and 2013

In one of the incidents, Solly Botha, 65, was shot dead at his farm in September 2013. The police were notified about the incident by a suspicious passer-by. The accused were sentenced as follows:

-Moses Nonono (28), was given life imprisonment for murder and 76-years for 6 house robberies, theft and 2 house burglaries.

-Govender Leteane (27), was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and 15 years for house robbery.

-Gift Leepile (22), was sentenced to life imprisonment and 15 years for house robbery.

-Andries Matladi was given 12 years for house robbery.

-Knowledge Paul Mandlazi (29), was sentenced to 22 years for house robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition for various crimes committed at farms in Zeerust. Mandlazi is currently serving life imprisonment terms for various crimes committed at farms in Zeerust and Brits.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane welcomed the conviction and commended the investigative team for their dedication. She said that this will serve as an indication to habitual criminals such as Paul Mandlazi that police ensure that those who commit crime get hefty sentences.
