NORTH WEST — Justice has been served as a 34-year-old Boitekong GBV offender sentenced to 10 years in prison following a conviction for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH). The decisive ruling, handed down by the Tlhabane Regional Court on Thursday, 9 July 2026, marks a significant milestone in addressing domestic violence within the Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2.
The severe incident originated on the evening of Sunday, 18 May 2025, in Meriting Extension 1, Boitekong. According to evidence presented in court, the 37-year-old victim had visited her boyfriend when he abruptly accused her of infidelity. The accusation quickly escalated into violence, with the accused repeatedly striking the victim with his fists and leaving her covered in bruises. Following the brutal assault, he locked her inside a room. Fortunately, the victim managed to escape her confinement and sought help.
The accused was apprehended two days after the incident, on Tuesday, 20 May 2025, which coincided with the day the matter was formally reported to the Boitekong SAPS. He made his first court appearance at the Tlhabane Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 22 May 2025, where he was denied bail. Following a comprehensive investigation, the case proceeded to the regional court, culminating in his conviction and the recent direct imprisonment sentence.
In addition to the decade-long prison term, the court declared the offender unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 of the Firearms Control Act, Act 60 of 2000, further restricting his ability to commit future violent acts.
District Commissioner Brigadier Mamotsamai Ntoagae of the Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2 publicly welcomed the stringent sentence. She emphasized that the ruling strongly demonstrates the criminal justice system’s unwavering commitment to holding perpetrators of gender-based violence strictly accountable for their actions.
Brigadier Ntoagae also commended the diligent work of the investigating officer, Constable Mashao Jacob Makwela of the Boitekong Detectives, alongside the prosecution team. She noted that their thorough investigative efforts and dedicated legal work were instrumental in securing the successful conviction and ensuring the offender faces the full weight of the law.
