Collaborative efforts by a private security company member and Mahikeng Flying Squad members led to the arrest of a 42-year-old man in Unit 15, Mmabatho in the early hours of Saturday morning, 14 September 2024, for tampering with and / or destruction of essential infrastructure.

According to information, Mahikeng Flying Squad members were on the way to work when they spotted security officer running near ESKOM electricity substation in Unit 15. They stopped the vehicle to investigate and security officer informed them that he was looking for a man who ran away after being found in the substation’s control room. The man was arrested after the team found him hiding in a trench. Furthermore, pieces of cables as well as a bolt cutter, screw driver and cutting knife that were apparently used by the suspect, were found inside the control room.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Molopo Magistrates’ Court in Mmabatho on Monday, 16 September 2024, for tampering with and / or destruction of essential infrastructure.

In Rustenburg, a disruptive operation termed “Safer City” and conducted in the Central Business District (CBD) between 08:00 and 16:00 on Friday, 13 September 2024, by various law enforcement agencies and other role players led by the South African Police Service (SAPS), culminated in the arrest of a suspect for bribery. Additionally, fines were issued for employing of undocumented foreign nationals while 50 suspected undocumented foreign nationals were taken in for processing.

The bribery suspect was apprehended after he allegedly attempted to bribe a police officer with R2000,00. The team also arrested suspects for possession of 433 packets of counterfeit cigarettes and possession of drugs respectively. All arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 16 September 2024.
