As part of addressing contact and other serious crimes, the police in Khuma arrested three suspects aged 29, 39 and 46 for the alleged murder of three victims and attempted murder of other three people in Extension 8, Khuma location near Stilfontein on Saturday, 8 April 2018.

The suspects’ arrest derives from an incident in which six people were allegedly shot at while sleeping inside a shack. It is alleged that the suspects entered the victim’s’ room, randomly fired shots that led to the instant death of three people.

The police were informed about matter and upon arrival, they found three victims lying dead on the ground with bullet wounds on their heads and chests. The other three victims sustained gunshot wounds on their legs and back. They were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

At this stage, the police cannot determine the motive of the incident. The identity of the victims who are reported to be Lesotho nationals is still unknown. The suspects will appear in the Stilfontein Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 11 April 2018.

The North West Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Ryno Naidoo condemned the incident as horrific and unnecessary. He said that the arrest will once more serve as an indication that criminals will not be spared in making sure that they account for their evil deeds.
